Hendrix runs past LeTourneau 83-50
LONGVIEW – Nick Heathscott led four Hendrix College players scoring in double-figures as the Warriors raced to an 83-50 win over LeTourneau in the YellowJackets' home opener Tuesday.
The Warriors' transition game in the second half proved to be too much for the YellowJackets to overcome, as Hendrix College shot 67 percent (18-of-27) from the floor after halftime.
Jace Williamson (Van Alstyne, Texas/Van Alstyne) and Jarrod Hudgens (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery) scored 11 points apiece for the YellowJackets, who fell to 1-2 with the defeat.
While the Warriors (2-2) were shooting with ease in the second half, the Jackets had trouble getting points from the field. LeTourneau shot 27 percent (6-of-22) from the floor during the second half.
The Warriors broke away from the Jackets in the latter stages of the first half and continued their surge after halftime. After a Hudgens' 3-pointer put the Jackets within one point at 28-27 with 2:50 remaining in the first half, Hendrix finished the period by outscoring the Jackets 10-1.
The Hendrix fast break and transition produced several opportunities for the Warriors inside 12 feet. Hendrix outscored LeTourneau 40-16 in the paint.
Kendrae Carter (Houston, Texas/NW Oklahoma State) scored nine points for the Jackets.
The YellowJackets return to action Saturday when they host McMurry in the first American Southwest Conference doubleheader of the season. The men's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
