MEN'S BASKETBALL: LeTourneau falls at Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas – The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back as they went on to defeat the visiting LeTourneau YellowJackets 87-51 Monday.

Matt Addison scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting to lead Hardin-Simmons (3-0, 2-0 American Southwest Conference). John Derr added 20 points off the HSU bench.

Jourdan Hughes (Dallas, Texas/SW Christian College) scored 11 points and recorded five assists to lead the YellowJackets (1-3, 0-2 ASC East). Hughes, a senior point guard, shot 3-of-4 from the field and made all five of his free throw attempts.

Cristian Driver (Houston, Texas/Atascocita) scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Driver, who missed all of the 2010-11 season, drained two out of his three 3-point tries and reached double-figures for the second time in as many games.

The Cowboys shot 43 percent from the field (15 of 35) in the first half while holding LeTourneau to 28 percent shooting (8 of 29) before halftime. HSU shot 54 percent (15 of 28) in the second half.

The YellowJackets return to Solheim Arena on Thursday when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 p.m. The game is the first of two home games this week for LeTourneau, which hosts Concordia Texas on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The LETU Athletics Winter Sports Floor Wars kicks off this week during the basketball doubleheaders, the only LeTourneau home dates before Christmas. Students who attend LeTourneau games and sign in for their floor have a chance to help their floor win $250.
