MEN'S BASKETBALL: Howard Payne defeats LeTourneau 87-66

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets shot 52 percent from the field and were perfect from behind the 3-point circle en route to an 87-66 win over the visiting YellowJackets from LeTourneau.

Howard Payne shooters were a perfect 7-of-7 from the 3-point circle, which ended up being the difference in a 21-point decision.

Brandon Irwin scored a game-high 20 points to lead three Howard Payne players scoring in double figures. The home team Jackets (5-4) improved to 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play.

Deitrich Williams (Fort Worth, Texas/Grace Prep) scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting to lead LeTourneau (1-7, 0-6 ASC East).

LeTourneau trimmed a 14-point lead down to six midway through the second half thanks to an 8-0 run between the 12:52 and 11:31 marks of the period.

With their lead threatened in the latter stages of the half, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets used a 10-0 run between the 7:17 and 5:22 marks to stretch their lead to 73-55.

Howard Payne limited LeTourneau shooters to 37 percent shooting (19 of 51) from the field. LeTourneau was 4-of-16 from behind the 3-point circle.

Paul All (Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military School) came off the LeTourneau bench to score nine points on 2-of-6 shooting. Trey Perkins (Groesbeck, Texas/Groesbeck) added eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

The LeTourneau Jackets play once more before adjourning for Christmas break as they open ASC East Division play at UT Tyler on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
