MEN'S GOLF: YellowJackets open spring 2011 season at LC Wildcat Classic
ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LeTourneau men's golf team opened its spring 2011 season with a second-place finish at the Louisiana College Wildcat Classic.
At the Links on the Bayon in Alexandria, La., the YellowJackets as a team shot a 302 on the second day of the classic Tuesday, knocking 11 strokes off their previous day's score and finishing in a tie with Paris Junior College with a final team score of 615.
Texarkana Community College won the event with a cumulative team score 583. All four of TCC's golfers contributing to the team score finished in the event's individual Top 10.
Senior LeTourneau golfer Spencer Rothluebber fired a 2-over-par-74 Tuesday to finish the event with a two-day score of 154. Rothluebber tied with teammate and midyear transfer Justin Weant, who shot scores of 77 and 75 in his first event as a YellowJacket.
Rothluebber and Weant finished in a tie for 8th place in the individual standings.
LeTourneau's Steven Morris finished tied for 13th with a two-day score of 155. Teammate Jacob Clay carded a two-day score of 156 to finish 16th.
The YellowJackets and Paris Junior College moved ahead of Mississippi College during the second day of competition.
The Jackets will hit the links again Monday when they compete at the Schreiner Spring Shootout in Kerrville, Texas. The last time the Jackets competed in a Schreiner event, they came away victorious in the Schreiner Fall Classic in October.
