MEN'S GOLF: YellowJackets win UT-Dallas Spring Classic

RICHARDSON, Texas – Spencer Rothluebber fired a third-round score of 72 to lead three LeTourneau players with scores of 75 or lower Tuesday as the YellowJackets came from behind to win the UT-Dallas Spring Classic.

At the Sherrill Park Golf Course, the YellowJackets collectively shot a third-round low of 304 and leapfrogged past UT-Tyler to win the event by three strokes.

The YellowJackets, who tallied a three-round score of 899, trailed the Patriots by two strokes after the event's first two rounds on Monday.

Jacob Clay (Denton, Texas/Denton) carded rounds of 74, 71 and 75 to lead the YellowJackets with a final three-day score of 4-over-par-220. Clay finished third in the individual standings and first among competitors from programs outside of the NCAA's Division I.

(Enrique Livas and Hunter Brown of Division I UT-Arlington finished claimed the event's top two finishes with scores of 215 and 217, respectively. The Mavericks had only three players compete in the Spring Classic, and were not included in the team standings.)

Rothluebber (Jefferson, N.H./White Mountain Regional HS) and teammate Justin Weant (Hallsville, Texas/Stephen F. Austin State) tied for ninth place with individual scores of 225. Rothluebber carded scores of 78 and 75 on Monday before shooting a par-72 Tuesday.

First-semester transfer Weant carded scores of 76, 74 and 75 during the two-day event. Weant has been a key player for the Jackets during the spring season, and won the Schreiner Spring Shootout earlier this month.

Steven Morris (Groves, Texas/Dulles) rounded out the LeTourneau team score with a 229. He shot an 82 on Tuesday after firing back-to-back rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday to finish tied for 16th in the individual standings.

The Jackets finished first among ten teams competing at the UT-Dallas Spring Classic, including seven other schools from the American Southwest Conference. Division III Independent University of Dallas and Division II Southeastern Oklahoma State also competed in the event.

The win over UT-Tyler should provide a boost to the Jackets' profile, as the Patriots are the No. 10-ranked team in NCAA Division III competition.

Eric Boone (Denton, Texas/Denton) shot a 245 over three rounds of competition for the YellowJackets. Hayden Adams (Newark, Texas/Allen) shot 249 for LeTourneau.

The Jackets return to action Monday, April 11 when they host the LeTourneau Spring Classic. The two-day event will be held at the Pinecrest Country Club in Longview.
