GOLF: LeTourneau players compete at Centenary Invitational

SHREVEPORT, La. - LeTourneau University sent three golfers to compete individually at Hal Sutton Intercollegiate Classic, hosted by Centenary University of Louisiana.

Jacob Clay, Spencer Rothluebber and Candice Nishimura competed for the YellowJackets during the two-day event which concluded Tuesday.

In the men's competition, Clay turned in a two-day score of 6-over-par 150 to finish in a tie for 13th place. His scorecards featured a Monday first-round score of 70, which was the second lowest score of the day.

Clay finished eighth among Division III competitors at the event.

Rothluebber, meanwhile, was not far behind, as he carded a 76 and a 77 for a combined score of 9-over-par 153. The senior from Jefferson, N.H. finished tied for 20th out of 60 competitors.

In the women's competition, Candice Nishimura finished 23rd in a field that contained many players from athletic scholarship-granting junior colleges and universities. She turned in rounds of 85 and 93 to fninish with a two-day score of 178.

Monday's first round saw Nishimura fire a 38 on the back nine, which included a birdie and seven pars.

The YellowJackets golf teams host the LeTourneau Invitational next week at the Pinecrest Country Club in Longview. The two-day event begins Monday morning.
