MEN'S GOLF: LeTourneau takes second at ASC Championship

LUFKIN, Texas – LeTourneau placed three players in the individual Top Ten as the YellowJackets placed second at the American Southwest Conference men's golf championship at Crown Colony Country Club.

LeTourneau seniors Jacob Clay and Spencer Rothluebber tied for sixth place in the individual standings after carding scores of 19-over-par 235. Steven Morris finished one stroke behind, shooting 236 for the three-round event.

As a team, the YellowJackets shot 944 to take second place, 46 strokes behind first-place Texas-Tyler. UT Tyler's Jacob Walsh won the individual championship with a three-round score of 219.

Clay, Morris and Rothluebber all turned in sub-80 scores during Monday's first round as LeTourneau shot a 312, good for second place. Clay shot a 75, while Morris and Rothluebber shot 78 and 79, respectively.

The Jackets lost ground during Monday's second round, shooting a 318, 10 strokes more than Mary Hardin-Baylor's 308. The Cru briefly held second place in the event after the second round

Rothluebber's 76 carried the way for the Jackets in the second round, followed by Clay, who carded a 78.

Tuesday's third round saw LeTourneau freshman Will Park shoot a 75 to lead all YellowJacket golfers. Park's 75 was the fourth-lowest score Tuesday and propelled him to a final score of 244, good for 18th place out of 48 golfers.

Morris also saved his best score for Tuesday, firing a 77 to bring his score to 236 after shooting an 81 during Monday's second round. Rothluebber and Clay, shot 80 and 82, respectively.

While the Jackets were enjoying solid rounds Tuesday, they were able to regain second place from Mary Hardin-Baylor, who say three players shoot 85 or higher in the final round.

LeTourneau's Hayden Adams shot a 251 for the event.

Clay, Rothluebber and Morris were all named to the All-ASC Second Team.
