Howard Payne blanks LeTourneau

BROWNWOOD, Texas – After a scoreless first half, Howard Payne scored a pair of second-half goals to knock off the LeTourneau University men's soccer team, 2-0, Friday in an American Southwest Conference game at Citizens National Bank Field.

 

Howard Payne, which out-shot LeTourneau, 19-11, found the back of the net in the 58 ^th minute as Jaime Benitez scored off an assist by Scott Irias and Shane Cazad for the 1-0 lead. Howard Payne (3-3 overall, 2-1 ASC) add its second goal of the night in the 71 ^st minute when Paul Deets scored off an assist by Shawn Stratton.

 

Kyle Davis had five saves in goal for the YellowJackets (2-3-2, 0-2-1). Francisco Medina recorded four saves for Howard Payne.

 

The YellowJackets continue their road swing with a 4:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26 match against Mary Hardin-Baylor in an American Southwest Conference match in Belton, Texas.
