YellowJackets claim first road win in 3-1 triumph at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Liberia national Kelvin Wiah notched his third match-winning goal of the season Thursday as the LeTourneau YellowJackets picked up their first victory away from home in 2010 in a 3-0 win over the University of the Ozarks.

The freshman striker put LeTourneau (8-5, 5-3 American Southwest Conference) on the board in the 10th minute when deposited a shot past Ozarks keeper Neil Thompson. The goal was Wiah's fifth of the season.

Junior striker Dillon Holt (Boerne, Texas/Boerne) added to the Jackets' lead in the 19th minute with his ASC-leading 13th goal, a header off a pass from teammate Ben Stoeckmann (Waukesha, Wis./Faith Christian). Holt also assisted on Wiah's tally.

Patrick Tchekane (Douala, Cameroon/Savio HS) provided a safe cushion for LeTourneau in the 24th minute with his third goal of the season.

LeTourneau's Kyle Davis (Solon, Ohio/Solon) had a relatively uneventful day in route to his second shutout of the season. The junior goalkeeper turned away the only two shots on goal he faced.

With a safe lead built midway through the opening half, the Jackets seemed content to sit on their margin for the duration of the match and prevent any comeback effort by Ozarks (3-10, 2-7 ASC).

LeTourneau's starting defensive line – Jeff Weatherspoon (Longview, Texas/Longview), Carlos Guevara (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown), Samuel Lopez-Hidalgo (Huntington Beach, Calif./Calvary Chapel) and Patrick Thompson (Southlake, Texas/Keller) – as well as midfielder Hunter Hembrough (Longview, Texas/Longview) stifled any creativity from the home side attack.

The win adds LeTourneau to the cluster of ASC teams with five victories. With five points (one point for each win) on the season, the YellowJackets are mere fractions of a point from the playoff zone of the top six teams.

The Jackets will face another stiff test Saturday when they visit perennial giants UT-Dallas. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
