Cantu named ASC East Freshman of the Year
RICHARDSON, Texas – LeTourneau University's Carlos Cantu was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Freshman of the Year as the YellowJackets placed three on the first team Tuesday.
Cantu, a native of Brownsville, Texas, was named freshman of the year, and was also selected to the ASC East First Team. Mike Parker (Lindale, Texas) and Wade Sinard (Corpus Christi, Texas) also earned All-ASC First-Team honors.
Cantu had a great first season as he went 20-4 in singles action. Parker went 11-3 in singles, while Sinard had the best season, finishing the year undefeated at 22-0.
Freshman David Robbins (Corpus Christi, Texas) and the team of Parker and Uli de la Fuente were named to the American Southwest Conference East Division Second Team.
In singles play, Robbins went 20-4. The team of Parker and de la Fuente went 10-2.
Mark Taylor (Paris, Texas), Paul Haney (Corpus Christi, Texas) and the teams of Cantu/Sinard and Taylor/Robbins were named to the All-ASC Honorable Mention team.
Taylor played at No. 1 singles and went 9-2, while Haney finished the year at 8-4. The team of Cantu/Sinard combined to go 14-4 and Taylor/Robbins went 9-2.
