CROSS COUNTRY: Leman, Martin lead LETU teams at NCAA Regional Meet
SEGUIN, Texas -- Peter Martin and Nicole Leman led their respective LeTourneau cross country teams Saturday at the NCAA South Region meet, held on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.
Leman, who led the YellowJacket women in every event in which she competed, finished her six-kilometer race with a time of 25 minutes, 36.4 seconds.
Running in her second consecutive NCAA Regional meet, Leman finished 74th out of 197 runners.
Martin, the American Southwest Conference's Freshman of the Year, led the YellowJacket men by finishing 79th out of 174 runners from across the South and Southeast. Martin completed the eight-kilometer course with a time of 28 minutes, 50.6 seconds.
Brendan Palmer was the second YellowJacket to cross the finish line, completing the race with a time of 30:41.8.
Freshmen Blake Barringer and Tim McDougall also ran the course in less than 35 minutes, turning in times of 31:40.8 and and 33:04, respectively.
Matthew Crall and Thayne Clement also competed for the LeTourneau men, finishing with times of 35:38.7 and 38:10.3.
John Kieffer of Center College won the individual men's title with a time of 26:04.5. Center finished second in the team standings behind men's champion Lynchburg.
LeTourneau runners Chelsea Stephens and Gianna Canales completed the women's race in under 33 minutes, with Stephens registering a time of 32:35.2 and Canales coming in after her with a time of 32:41.5.
Leah Quesenberry (33:17.8), Annie Brasket (33:25.6) and Hollie Bryant (33:31.8) also competed in their first NCAA Regional competition for the YellowJackets.
Sophia Stone of Mary Baldwin University won the women's event with a time of 22:10.1 Emory University won the women's team event.
