Christin Mickelboro named Second-Team All-American

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –LeTourneau University's Christin Mickelboro was named Friday to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American Second Team.

"We are very excited and pleased that Christin received this honor," LeTourneau head softball coach Mike VanBrocklin said. "She had a phenomenal year. She is a very humbling person and carries herself well on and off the field. Christin got big hits when we needed them and she played solidly defensively throughout the season. This honor raises the bar for our program."

Mickelboro, a native of Longview, Texas, was selected to the second team as a second baseman. The sophomore, who earned First-Team All-American Southwest Conference and All-West Region honors, led the ASC in batting with a .491 average.

She had 52 hits in 106 at-bats with 43 runs batted in, 29 runs scored, a team-high 16 doubles, a team-high eight home runs and one triple. She slugged .887 and had an on-base percentage of .559.

Perhaps one of her biggest accomplishments during the 2010 season came at the American Southwest Conference Firstpitch Tournament, where Mickelboro went 11-for-12 with a tourney-record five home runs, breaking the previous mark held by current YellowJackets assistant coach and then-UT-Tyler player Kate Bell. For that remarkable week, Mickelboro earned the ASC East Division Player of the Week.

Mickelboro joins LeTourneau women's golfer Leslie Lee as student-athletes who garnered All-American honors during the 2009-10 season. Lee was named All-American Honorable Mention after her eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships.
