SOFTBALL: YellowJackets fall to UMHB, pound Schreiner on Saturday
FARMER'S BRANCH, Texas – Christin Mickelboro hit two home runs in the Saturday finale of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Softball Tournament and led the YellowJackets to an 11-1 win over Schreiner.
The YellowJackets went 1-1 on Saturday to give them three wins over ASC West foes for the weekend. LeTourneau improved to 9-3 for the season.
Mickelboro went 3-for-4 with four RBIs against the Mountaineers. Sara Whitehead added two RBIs in the game.
Mickelboro homered in the first inning and drove home Kali Behrans to give the Jackets a 2-0 lead. LeTourneau further stretched its lead with a seven-run second inning.
Taylor Thibodeaux picked up her second win in as many days after holding the Mountaineers scoreless over four innings.
The win salvaged Saturday's action for LeTourneau, which lost 7-5 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the Jackets' first game of the day. UMHB's Hannah White was the difference maker in the game as she hit two home runs, including a walkoff blast in the bottom of the ninth inning.
White also kept the Jackets at bay in extra innings, striking out five batters and allowing only one hit in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Crusaders handed Kelsie Mercer-Stephenson her first loss in seven decisions.
Alex Flanagan and Anna Winter drove in two runs apiece in the afternoon game.
The YellowJackets were one of many East Division teams enjoying success this weekend. East Division teams went 23-5 against the West.
The Jackets return to action Tuesday when they host Louisiana College in LeTourneau's ASC East opener. The doubleheader, which will also mark the Jackets' campus debut for 2011, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
