SOFTBALL: Mickelboro named to NFCA All-West Region First Team
LONGVIEW – LeTourneau second baseman Christin Mickelboro was named to the NCAA Division III All-West Region First Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday following an outstanding 2011 season.
An alumna of Longview High School, Mickelboro was an integral part of a YellowJackets team that recorded its first winning season in program history. The YellowJackets went 22-18, which included their first-ever wins over NCAA Tournament-bound UT-Tyler.
During the season, Mickelboro continued to rewrite the LeTourneau record book as she led the team in eight batting categories, including average (.445), home runs (10), runs batted in (40), on-base percentage (.523) and slugging percentage (.845). She also ranked in the American Southwest Conference's top ten in seven statistical categories.
With one season left in her collegiate career, Mickelboro already owns school records in home runs (22), doubles (33) and RBIs (106). At East Texas Baptist late in the season, she belted three home runs over the course of two games.
Last week, Mickelboro was also recognized by the ASC after she was voted onto the All-ASC East First Team.
The ASC was well-represented on the AFCA All-West Region First Team, with conference players taking six of the 15 spots on the team. The ASC East Division will have four teams competing at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Tyler this weekend.
