Kerns, Hahn lead the way as YellowJackets fall to Cowgirls
ABILENE, Texas – Kayla Kerns scored 14
points, but it wasn't enough as the LeTourneau University
women's basketball team dropped a 79-58 American Southwest
Conference game to Hardin-Simmons Saturday at the Mabee
Complex.
Kerns was 5-of-12 from the field to pace the YellowJackets.
Laura Hahn added 12 points on 2-of-3 shooting, but was 8-of-8 from
the foul line. She also added nine rebounds as LeTourneau was
17-of-51 shooting for 33 percent.
LeTourneau (3-9 overall, 3-5 ASC) kept things close and tied
the game at 15 after an April McCamey jumper with 11:20 remaining
in the first half. But Hardin-Simmons (6-6, 3-5) controlled the
final 11 minutes by using a 30-10 run to take a 40-25 lead into the
break.
The Cowgirls led by as many as 29 points in the second half to
earn the win.
Jasmine Lewis scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the
first half to lead Hardin-Simmons. Becky Taylor had 17 points and
11 rebounds for a double-double and Kara Looten finished with 12
points. Lindsey Newcome also recorded double-digit rebounds with
12. The Cowgirls were 27-of-69 (39 percent) from the field.
LeTourneau concluded its three-game road trip and returns to
action 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Solheim Arena against
the University of the Ozarks in the American Southwest Conference
East Division opener.
