LONGVIEW – Shamika Singleton scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to lead three Concordia Texas players in double figures as the Tornados defeated LeTourneau 81-52 Saturday.
At LeTourneau's Solheim Arena, the undefeated Tornados (4-0, 3-0 ASC West) shot 50 percent from the field (26 of 52) and held the YellowJackets to 30 percent shooting (16 of 53).
Sharday Cotton (Mansfield, La./LSU-Shreveport) scored 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting to lead the YellowJackets. She finished a rebound shy of a double-double, grabbing nine boards for the second consecutive game.
In her first season as a YellowJacket, Cotton has scored in double figures in four of her first six games.
DeShante Thomas (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse) came off the LeTourneau bench to score eight points. Jessica Manas (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth) added seven points.
Lashanda Luckey and and Termeka Canada scored 13 points and 12 points, respectively, off Concordia's bench.
The Tornados broke the game open in the latter stages of the first half with a seven-minute, 16-0 run to take a 39-16 lead with 2:27 remaining in the period.
Saturday's game was a physical affair that featured 75 free throw attempts by both teams. The Jackets took 31 of their 35 charity shots in the second half.
The YellowJackets (3-3, 1-3 ASC East) return to action next week when they make the long trip to Alpine to take on Sul Ross State. Last season, LeTourneau defeated the Lady Lobos 77-47 behind 17 points from Thomas.
Tipoff in Alpine is scheduled for 1 p.m.
