LETU sixth after first round

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The LeTourneau University women's golf team fired an opening-round 376 Monday during the Southwestern Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club.
 
The YellowJackets, who had 20 pars and 1 birdie, finished the first round with a 376 and is sixth after the opening day. Host Southwestern is in first by three strokes after shooting a 336. St. Mary's College of Indiana is second with a 339. UT-Tyler (345) is third, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor (346) and Trinity (368). Concordia-Texas rounds out the field with a 436.
 
Leslie Lee, who is tied for sixth, shot a 40 on the front nine and 45 on the back for an 85. She had 10 pars and one birdie. Candice Nishimura is tied for 20 th after shooting 43-49 for a 90. Elizabeth Zapata fired a 46-54 for 100 and is 33 rd. Melissa Freeman (51-50) and Kristen Baskin (50-51) are tied for 34 th after shooting 101.
 
Southwestern's Kelsey Coburn is the leader after shooting a 42 on the front and 36 on the back for a 78.
 
LeTourneau concludes play 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30 at the Southwestern Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club.
