WOMEN'S SOCCER: Undefeated East Texas Baptist slips by LeTourneau
MARSHALL, Texas – Three different East Texas Baptist players scored goals as the Tigers defeated the visiting LeTourneau women's soccer team 3-0 Tuesday.
Rebecca Davis, Danica Saxon and Hannah Smith all scored first-half goals for the Tigers (7-0-1, 4-0 ASC). The YellowJackets kept the undefeated Tigers off the board in the second half.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, the Jackets threatened to cut into the home team's lead when a shot by Kali Behrens (Montgomery, Texas/Frostproof [Fla.] HS) sailed just wide of the goal.
The Jackets further threatened in the second half when Jody Lang (Bandon, Ore./Pacific) and Elise Athans (Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen) fired shots that were stopped by Cristine Aquino.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Perry (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse) made five saves in goal for the YellowJackets.
East Texas Baptist improved to a perfect 7-0 against Division III opponents. The lone tie by the Tigers was a 2-2 draw at NAIA program Belhaven, located in Jackson, Miss.
In seven matches against Division III opponents, the only goal to get by the Tigers came in a 2-1 win over Austin College to begin the season.
The YellowJackets return to action Friday when they travel to Shreveport, La. to face Centenary, the newest member of the ASC. As Centenary is beginning the transition from Division I to Division III athletics, the match does not count in the league standings.
Match time between the Jackets and Ladies of Centenary is scheduled for 5 p.m.
