WOMEN'S TENNIS: YellowJackets fall to USW, regionally ranked Whitworth
SHERMAN, Texas – The LeTourneau women's tennis team dropped two matches at Austin College over the weekend.
The YellowJackets dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to NAIA University of the Southwest on Saturday before falling 9-0 to Division III Whitworth on Sunday.
LeTourneau players took three of the six singles matches against Southwest, but only one of the three doubles matches as the Lady Mustangs claimed the team victory.
Sarah Case (Van Alstyne, Texas/North Central Texas College), Caitlyn Hairell (San Marcos, Texas/San Marcos) and Brooke Kincade (Sugar Land, Texas/Elkins) all won their singles matches. Case and Kincade went undefeated against Southwest, as they paired up for a doubles victory, defeating Mary Thaxton and Stephanie Dixon 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles flight.
Case, the YellowJackets' No. 1 player, had little trouble putting away Andrea Venegas on Saturday, winning by scores 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 4 flight, Kincade also swept to victory, defeating Kelly Sessions 6-0, 6-4.
Hairell prevailed in a longest match of the day, defeating Lindsey Hoffman in the No. 2 singles flight by scores of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Against the Whitworth, ranked eighth in West Region of NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Case took the region's No. 15 player Rachel Burns to three sets, falling 6-0, 3-6, 10-7.
The YellowJackets return to action Friday when they play their first home match of the season against Louisiana College. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
