WOMEN'S TENNIS: Jackets topple Schreiner 8-1

LONGVIEW -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team stormed to its sixth consecutive match victory Monday with an 8-1 win over the visiting Schreiner Mountaineers.

The YellowJackets (8-3) swept all three doubles flights for the fourth consecutive match. LeTourneau players were also victorious in singles flights one, four, five and six for the fourth straight time.

LeTourneau's Sarah Case (Flight one) and Ali Goodwin (Flight five) had relatively easy singles wins; Case defeated Teresa Gaitan 6-0, 6-1, while Goodwin prevailed over Lindsay Fox 6-2, 6-1.

In flight two, Miranda Lamb coasted to 6-1 win in her first set and then held off a spirited comeback attempt by Schreiner's Lynne Collenback to take the second set 6-3.

April McCamey added to her streak of 10 consecutive matches with at least one win with her singles and doubles win Monday. She took a 6-4, 6-4 decision from Schreiner's Haley Richards in Flight four.

In flight six, Kayla Bonina outlasted Becky Chiaro in 7-5 in the second set after taking the first set 6-2.

Bonina also teamed up with Shelby May for their sixth consecutive flight two doubles victory, defeating Fox and Kelley Spahn 9-7. The LeTourneau duo fell behind 5-2 but rallied to take seven of the next nine games.

Case and Lamb recorded an 8-4 victory in doubles flight one, while Goodwin and McCamey cruised to an 8-2 win in doubles flight three.

Schreiner's only win was Spahn's flight three singles win over May.

The Jackets return to action Friday when they host Texas Lutheran at the LeTourneau tennis courts. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
