TENNIS: LeTourneau teams sweep past East Texas Baptist to end season
LONGVIEW – The LeTourneau University tennis teams completed their 2012 seasons Saturday with identical 9-0 victories over East Texas Baptist.
At the LETU Tennis Courts, all six women's players enjoyed two-set victories in singles play after taking three doubles victories. East Texas Baptist fielded only five men's players, giving the YellowJacket men a leg up in a lopsided dual match.
LETU Women 9, East Texas Baptist 0 - Results
The lone senior on either LeTourneau squad, women's player April McCamey (pictured), finished her career in grand fashion, as she knocked off ETBU opponent Madison Johnson by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in flight four singles. McCamey also teamed up with Ali Goodwin in flight three doubles competition to defeat Johnson and Klaire Kent 8-2.
Sarah Case also swept through her flight one singles match, defeating Kallie Kent 6-0, 6-0; Case also won her doubles match with Miranda Lamb in flight one by defeating Kallie and Karson Kent 8-2.
In flight two doubles, Shelby May and Kayla Bonina defeated ETBU's Kayla Franklin and Kali Kipp by a score of 8-4.
The YellowJackets women's team finished the season with a 13-8 record, and a 3-3 record in the American Southwest Conference's East Division.
During her two-year career with the YellowJackets, McCamey posted a 22-17 record in singles play and a 23-15 record in doubles competition. McCamey also lettered in volleyball during the 2011-12 academic year.
LETU Men 9, East Texas Baptist 0 - Results
Four of the five men's singles matches were clean sweeps for the YellowJackets, who ended their season with a 13-7 record and a 2-4 ASC East record.
Kendall Beggs and Sindre Johnsgaard both enjoyed perfect matches to finish the season. The pair teamed up to defeat Jeff Hull and Efrain Infante in flight two doubles 8-0.
In singles play, Beggs defeated Caleb Stokes 6-0, 6-0 in flight two competition, while Johnsgaard defeated Hull 6-0, 6-0 in flight three.
Meanwhile, Carlos Cantu eased to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in flight one singles play, and Josh Bailey roared to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Infante in flight four. Cantu and Bailey defeated Williamson and Stokes 8-3 in flight one doubles play.
LETU's Will Cazares defeated Nick Larzabal 6-2, 6-0 in flight five singles play.
