ASC-leading UT-Dallas drops LeTourneau in four games
RICHARDSON, Texas – The LeTourneau YellowJackets gave ASC East-leading UT-Dallas a scare Tuesday before falling in four games to the Comets. Scores of the match were 23-25, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17.
Dana Hilzendager knocked down 18 kills for UT-Dallas (10-1), which ran its American Southwest Conference record to 5-0 with the victory.
Sophomore right-side hitter Crystal Read (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) led the YellowJackets with 14 kills and recorded her second double-double in as many matches, digging out Comet attacks.
Read was the catalyst in LeTourneau's game one victory, knocking down eight kills as the YellowJackets took a 1-0 lead in the match.
Senior middle blocker Keasa Johnson (Longview, Texas/Cisco JC) registered 10 kills for LeTourneau (8-7, 2-2 ASC East). Johnson led the YellowJackets with a .156 hitting percentage against UT-Dallas, and also totaled three blocks during the match.
Freshman libero Jessica Zabojnik (Burleson, Texas/Burleson) led the Jackets defensively with 19 digs. Junior Brittany Hood (Mesquite, Texas/Richland JC) tallied 15 digs, followed by freshman defensive specialist Kayla Bonina (Carrollton, Texas/Carrollton Christian), who recorded 10 digs.
The YellowJackets are back in action Friday when they return to the UT-Dallas campus to participate in the first of two ASC Crossover tournaments. LeTourneau will face four opponents from the ASC West over two days, starting with Texas Lutheran and Concordia on Friday. Match times are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Saturday session of the Crossover tournament will pit LeTourneau against Hardin-Simmons and McMurry, with match times scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. starts.
